I have not played ASL in decades and have just started getting my son into the game.
My question is cost and the ability to just poke around.
    Thanks

Do we have to register for Starter Kit play or just for the main tournament? Also how beginner friendly will the SK play be? I know Starter Kit 1 and 2, but I still don’t have vehicles down.

Everyone SHOULD register if they’d like to get a t-shirt of the right size! 🙂 Walk-ins are MORE than welcome of course. The SK event will certainly accommodate you on the vehicle front and you’d likely get someone to do a primer for you if you wanted.

I noted a couple people ask about Starter Kit, and I’d like to chime in that while I have played SK1 scenarios a few times (perhaps a half dozen times), and even incorporated SK2 in a couple played scenarios, I am a relative novice to the system… yet it plays very easily, compared to full system and is in my opinion, as user friendly as ASL could possibly ever come, when compared to full system. For me, it has similarities to Lock ‘N Load Publishing’s “Heroes” system, if you are familiar with that system, but with SK being somewhat more complex.

I’ve been to a couple past Tussles, and even competed in one years’ SK tournament …frankly, I had more fun with just plain ‘ol casual play in other Tussles, so as far as I am concerned, I would say my skill level isn’t suited for tourney play… not currently, anyway. So, I definitely keep playing light and user friendly, and help in any way I might be able to. I am perfectly happy playing just SK1 scenarios.

I play for the fun of it solely, and not competitively; not beholding to fast play, of which you generally find in competition —hell, I’ll admit it, I am a slow player, because I just want to have casual fun with the game, and I really don;t have the system down, even though I’ve read the blasted SK1 rulebook a dozen times!!! …it’s that kind of system that I have a love/hate relationship with, because like Kahn said in Star Trek, “It tassssks me…it tasssssks me!” (…or something like that, haha).

So what that translates to is, I’ll play anyone, as long as it’s super chill and learn at your pace. That’s my cards on the table 😊
